Slip Ring for Testing Instruments
Test instruments are designed to test various devices, including their electrical, mechanical and optical performance. They help determine whether the device meets design requirements and quality standards. During operation, the test instrument contacts and transmits various types of signals, such as electrical signals, optical signals, and radio frequency signals.
The multi circuits slip ring contains multiple independent conductive rings or optical fiber channels, can transmit multiple types of signals at the same time. For example, it may have 10 electrical signal channels and 2 optical signal channels, to Keep the smooth going of the test process.
Why We Need The Multi Circuits Slip Ring?
Anti-Signal Interference
Testing instruments have complex circuit systems. These circuits will generate electromagnetic signals of different frequencies and amplitudes when working. When the signals interact or couple with each other, electromagnetic interference is formed. The signal channels inside the multi-line slip ring are independent of each other and isolated by insulating materials. The insulation resistance between each channel can reach hundreds of megohms, to prevent signal crosstalk.
Low Contact Resistance
Through the multi-point contact structure, the contact area between the conductive ring and the brush is increased, and the contact resistance per unit area is reduced. At the same time, its contacts are generally made of precious metal materials, which can better maintain the strength and quality of the signal. Because the resistivity of gold is about 2.44×10⁻⁸Ω・m. In contrast, the resistivity of copper is about 1.7×10⁻⁸Ω・m.
High Channel Number Support
These devices require data acquisition and monitoring of hundreds of test points. Multi-wire slip rings provide dozens or even hundreds of signal channels to maintain the operation of large-scale automated test systems to meet this.
Improve Test Efficiency
When the test instrument is working, if ordinary cables are used for connection, cable entanglement is very likely to occur. Multi-wire slip rings often follow the equipment, rotate 360 degrees without restriction, and transmit power and signals. They maintain constant rotation and motion operation of the equipment.
Special Requirements
When the multi circuits slip ring are used in testing instruments, it should be:
Electrical Performance
The contact resistance of multi-wire slip rings should be low, especially for experimental detection equipment and microelectronic component detectors. The value should be kept in the range of 7 milliohms or lower, which can reduce signal distortion during transmission.
Electromagnetic Compatibility
When slip rings are used in detection equipment, we should avoid the electromagnetic interference outside. This is generally achieved by covering the outer shell of the slip ring with a metal shielding mesh or using a conductive coating. They can block the penetration of electromagnetic waves and reflect and absorb electromagnetic waves.
Meet Transmission Standards
Common standards include RS232, RS485, CAN bus, etc. These signals are used for data communication between the tester and the external control system, such as instrument parameter setting, data transmission, and sending of control instructions.
Wear Resistance
Under frequent testing, the internal components of multi-line slip rings are worn due to friction. They often use carbon graphite and precious metal alloys as the conductive materials, or special lubricating coating to reduce wear.
