Preparation for Through Hole Slip Ring Installation
With proper cleaning and preparation, the slip ring can be installed on the shaft more smoothly and aligned correctly. Here are the key points of the preparation process:
Review the Instructions
First, thoroughly review the manufacturer's installation instructions and technical specifications for the specific through-hole slip ring model being used. This will provide important information about shaft compatibility, installation requirements, electrical connections, and any special precautions.
01
Confirm Model and Specifications
Read the product manual in detail to clarify the parameters such as the aperture, outer diameter, number of channels, rated current, rated voltage, etc. of the slip ring to ensure that it matches the application equipment. We also need to check whether the appearance of the slip ring is damaged or deformed.
02
Prepare Tools
Prepare basic tools such as suitable screwdrivers (such as Phillips screwdrivers, flat screwdrivers), wrenches, pliers, etc. for removing and installing fasteners such as screws and nuts.
03
Prepare Auxiliary Materials
According to the installation requirements, it is best to prepare gaskets, spring washers, thread glue, cable clamps, etc. Because during the installation process, in order to prevent the screws from loosening, we usually use spring washers to fix them.
04
Clean the Environment
Make sure there is no dust and oil around the installation location. You can use a vacuum cleaner, rag and other tools to clean it. At the same time, we need to remove dirt, rust and impurities on its surface.
05
Plan the Installation Location
Measure the installation area to confirm that there is enough space to accommodate the slip ring and ensure that it will not interfere with other surrounding components after installation. Consider the direction and position of the slip ring so that the subsequent cable connection and wiring are reasonable.
06
Determine the Installation Method
Determine the appropriate installation method (such as fixing on the rotating shaft, installing on the flange of the equipment, etc.) according to the type of slip ring (such as through-hole type, flange type, etc.) and the structure of the equipment.
07
Check Related Equipment
If the slip ring is installed on a rotating part (such as a motor shaft, transmission shaft, etc.), check whether the rotating part rotates flexibly and smoothly, and whether there are abnormal conditions such as jamming and jumping. At the same time, confirm that the shaft diameter of the rotating part matches the hole diameter of the slip ring, and perform appropriate processing or adjustment if not so.
08
Installation Steps
Installation of a through-hole slip ring involves several steps to ensure proper installation and proper function. The following is a detailed breakdown:

For example: the inner hole of the slip ring is 70 mm, and we have a shaft with a diameter of 70 mm.

Post-Installation Inspection of Slip Ring
Here are some tips for checking if the slip ring is installed correctly:
Appearance Inspection
Check whether the wire connection is firm and whether there is any looseness, falling off or damage. Make sure the conductor connection is firm to ensure stable transmission of signals and current.
Contact Resistance Detection
Install the slip ring on the detection instrument and run it, and measure its contact resistance value with a digital microvoltmeter. Generally speaking, the fluctuation value of each contact resistance should not exceed 9 milliohms (some standards also stipulate 10 milliohms).
Insulation Resistance Detection
Test it with an insulation withstand voltage meter, and the standard insulation resistance should be no less than 5000 megohms. If the test fails, it may be a short circuit in the slip ring, a problem with the slip ring material, or defects such as cracks and holes during the glue filling.
Noise Detection
When the brush slides on the rotating ring and encounters a changing contact resistance, resistance noise is generated. For a 100 MA signal, the noise range is usually 0.4 to 40 MV.
Dielectric Strength Test
The dielectric strength test mainly tests whether the slip ring can withstand electrical stress under certain voltage conditions. If the slip ring does not show abnormal phenomena such as breakdown and discharge during the test, it means that its dielectric strength meets the requirements
Temperature Test
In the first half hour after the slip ring is started, the temperature is tested every 5-10 minutes. If the temperature rises by more than 10℃ in a short period of time, or shows an upward trend for many times, it may indicate that the slip ring has a potential fault.
